IP Maps allow multiple static WAN IP addresses, up to a maximum of 10 addresses, to be assigned to the Netopia gateway. Static WAN IP addresses are used to support specific services, like a web server, mail server, or DNS server. This is accomplished by mapping a separate static WAN IP address to a specific internal LAN IP address. All traffic arriving at the gateway intended for the static IP address is transferred to the internal device. All outbound traffic from the internal device appears to originate from the static IP address. This supports locally hosted servers on a public IP address while protecting LAN users behind the NAT IP address.

PLEASE NOTE: From the LAN (Local Area Network), you will also be able to access the servers that are responding to requests from the internet, but only using the internal private IP address. Access via the public IP address is not supported from a local ethernet connection.

This technote will guide you through the setup process for this feature in your Netopia.

Please Note: If your router is currently running Netopia Enterprise Firmware version 8.0.10 and later, this technote is not applicable to you.

Please Note: The 3341/3346 does not support IP Maps in firmware version 6.3.0 R9.

Before You Start

Browse into the Netopia's web interface at http://192.168.1.254 (if using the default IP setting). If your network has a different IP addressing scheme, modify this accordingly.

Login with the admin user name and password. Admin login is required to save changes. If you are unsure of this, contact your network administrator.

Once logged in, click on the Expert Mode link in the left-hand side menu (if that link is visible). In the Expert Mode Confirmation screen click on Ok to continue. This menu bar will be visible at the top of your screen if you are in Expert Mode.

Remember to click the Submit button to save any entries. Hitting the back button without clicking Submit will undo any changes.

Once you have completed your configuration, click on the symbol in your upper right hand corner to validate the changes. Then click on Save and Restart.

Configuration

1. Click on Configure in the upper Menu bar.Click on Advanced.




2. Under the NAT heading, click on IP Maps. Click on the Add button. In the IP Map Entry box:
   1. Enter a unique IP Map Name.
      PLEASE NOTE: The name entered should not exceed 15 characters for each entry!Enter the private Internal IP Address
      of the device on your network.Enter the public External IP Address provided to you by the ISP that is being mapped to the internal private address.
   2. Click on Submit to save.

   In the file path menu bar directly above
   the IP Map Entry box, click on the IP Maps link.



3. On this screen you will now see the IP Maps you have configured.You can Add new maps from this screen, or Edit and Delete existing maps by highlighting and selecting the desired function.Click on the in the upper right hand corner. This will validate that the settings are legal for your network.If you get Validation Passed, click Save and Restart in the menu. If it doesn't validate the change, a message will indicate the reason. It must be corrected before the configuration change can be applied.This completes the configuration of the Netopia for IP Maps.
4. The router will reboot and is now set to share the Public IP Address with the computer which has been specified to receive that address.

Conclusion

You've now configured your Netopia Router for static IP Mapping.
Be sure to restart the router for these changes to take effect.
