The urban community of the City of Marseille, France’s second-largest city, comprises 150 administrative sites (schools, district town halls, libraries, maintenance services, etc.), as well as a surrounding urban community of 18 towns and villages, known as Marseille Provence Métropole (MPP). Starting in 200, the City of Marseille assumed technical support responsibility for MPP, increasing its burden to more than 6,500 computers; 60% are PCs running Windows and 40% are Macs running OS 9 and OS X operating systems. 50 technicians in the City’s IT and Telecommunications Services Department (ITSD) were tasked with fulfilling an average of more than 400 on-site support requests per month. To handle the dramatic increase, the ITSD made the strategic decision to streamline the support process by equipping all computers with remote support software.
